Basics of Ayurveda The Foundation of Natural Healing

Medical science aims to provide healthcare and improve human well-being.

The Five Elements (Panchamahabhuta)

According to Ayurveda, the entire universe (including our body) is made up of five elements:

  • Air (Vayu)
  • Fire (Agni)
  • Water (Jal)
  • Earth (Prithvi)
  • Ether (Akash)

These elements are essential for existence—if even one is missing, life cannot sustain.

How They Work in Our Body:

  • Air → Breathing (Oxygen)
  • Water → 70% of body fluids
  • Fire → Digestion (Agni)
  • Ether → Space & communication (hearing, tissues)
  • Earth → Structure (bones, muscles, organs)

Tridosha Theory – Core of Ayurveda

The basic principle of Ayurveda is based on three Doshas:

  • Vata (Air)
  • Pitta (Fire)
  • Kapha (Water)

Health depends on the balance of these three doshas

Important

Dushyate Iti Dosha
When doshas become imbalanced, diseases occur.

Prakriti – Your Body Constitution

Your Prakriti (body constitution) is determined at birth.

  • Decided in mother’s womb
  • Based on dominance of doshas
  • Unique for every individual

Understanding Prakriti helps in:

  • Choosing correct diet
  • Lifestyle planning
  • Disease prevention

Nature & Health Connection

Just like nature, our body also gets disturbed when balance is lost:

  • Air imbalance → Storms / Anxiety
  • Water imbalance → Flood / Fluid issues
  • Fire imbalance → Forest fire / Inflammation

Ayurveda teaches us to:

  • Protect environment
  • Maintain natural balance
  • Follow seasonal routines

Mind-Body-Soul Connection

Ayurveda sees humans as a combination of:

  • Body
  • Mind
  • Soul

When one is disturbed, others are affected.

  • Body disease → Mental stress
  • Mental stress → Physical imbalance

Agni & Ojas – Key to Health

  • Agni (Digestive Fire):
    • Converts food into energy
    • Supports metabolism
  • Ojas (Vital Energy):
    • Builds immunity
    • Maintains strength & vitality

 Strong Agni = Healthy body
 Strong Ojas = Strong immunity

Ayurveda Lifestyle Principles

✔ Follow daily routine (Dinacharya)
✔ Eat according to season (Ritucharya)
✔ Manage stress
✔ Maintain proper digestion
✔ Stay connected with nature

Ayurveda focuses on prevention rather than cure.

Ayurveda is a powerful system that teaches us to live in harmony with nature.

  • Balance of Doshas = Good Health
  • Strong Mind + Body = Happy Life
  • Proper Lifestyle = Disease Prevention

Ayurveda is truly the best preventive science in the world.
