In our modern world we have mastered art of defying nature. We use artificial light to stay up past midnight, drink caffeine to override morning grogginess, and eat heavy meals at night while the rest of the world sleeps.

While according to Ayurveda our bodies are not designed to fight the clock. We are Governed by Dincharya (Daily discipline routine) that aligns our internal biology with the movement of the sun and dominant energies called Doshas of the day with in 24 hrs of day night cycle.

When we align with Ayurvedic clock life feels like an uphill battle and more like a flow. Ayurveda teaches us how to master of rhythms of your day.

The Ayurveda Clock Explained: –

Ayurveda Divides the 24-hour day into four-hour blocks (that is called prahar). Each Block is dominated by one of the three doshas Vata, Pitta Kapha according to five elements we called it Air, Fire, Water.

The Morning Phase 6.00 AM to – 10.00 Am (Kapha Time)

Energy: Heavy, Slow, stable

The Goal : Movement and Awakening.

Because Kapha is naturally heavy if you wake after sunrise (after 7.00AM or 8.00AM), you might feel heaviness all day.

Rise and Shine: Aim to wake up just before sunrise.

Cleanse: Splash your eyes, scrape your tongue drink warm water to wake up your digestive trac because time for evacuation faecal material through your body (that is called Vega) is 5 to 6.30 AM you will not feel constipated if you wake up early morning.

Move: This is the best time to do vigorous exercise to shake off the morning heaviness.

The Mid-Day Phase: 10.00 AM – 2.00 PM (Pitta Time)

Energy: High heat, intense, productive, phase of Digestion.

The Goal: Digestion and Focus.

This is the time when internal sun (Agni) is at its peak.

Eat Your Biggest Meal: Your Body is most Capable of breaking down food between 10.00 AM To 1.00PM

Deep Work: Use this high intensity energy for your most challenging tasks or creative projects.

The Afternoon Phase: 2.00PM – 6.00 PM (Vata Time)

Energy: Light, airy, erratic

The Goal: Creativity and Wind-down.

As the day begins to fade, Vata energy takes over. You might notice a 3.00 PM slump or wandering mind.

Nourish the Mind: This is the feat time for brainstorming writing or light communication.

The Evening Phase: 6.00PM – 10.00PM (Kapha Time)

Energy: Cooling, slowing, grounding.

The Goal: Relaxation.

As the sun sets, Kapha returns to help the body prepare for rest.

Light Supper: Keep Dinner Lighter than lunch so your body isn’t working overtime to digest while you sleep.

Generally, try to take your dinner before 7.00pm.

Digital Detox: Dim the lights and step away from screens by 8.00 or 9.00 PM.

The Golden Rule: Try to be in bed by 10.00 PM if You stay up past this, you hit the “Second Wind”.

The Late-Night Phase:  10.00 PM — 2.00 AM (Pitta Time)

Energy: Internal transformation and cleaning.

The Goal: Deep Sleep.

If you are awake during this window, Pitta energy turns toward the mind, making you hungry or overly productive (the “night owl” effect). However, Ayurveda suggests this energy should be used for internal repair. While you sleep, your liver and organs are busy detoxifying your system.

How to Start Your Dincharya

You don’t have to overhead your life overnight. Ayurveda is about gradual, sustainable shifts.

Start with the Morning: Try waking up 15 minutes earlier than usual and drinking warm water.
